CPR can make a difference

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an easy lifesaving technique

CPR … Your way to save lives

Sudden Cardiac Arrest can immediately strike anyone, any time and without warning. The possibility of saving a man whose heart has stopped depends on the first person who witnessed the situation. The probability of returning his heart to beat normally again decreases by 10% for every minute that proper care is not administered.

You do not have to feel helpless when it comes to your response in an emergency. Instead, enjoy the confidence and satisfaction that comes from knowing that your Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (“CPR”) skills could be a reason to save a life.

How to perform effective CPR?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an easy lifesaving technique that could be performed by anyone at any time. You don’t have to be a doctor to learn and administer CPR effectively.

The three standard stages of CPR by (American Heart Association) referred to as the "CAB sequence".

The letters C-A-B stand for the following:

(C) For compressions

(A) For airway

(B) For breathing

1st step: Chest compressions (C).

  1. Put the person on his or her back on a firm surface.
  2. Place the heel of one hand over the center of the person's chest.
  3. Place your other hand on top of the first hand.
  4. Use your upper body weight and compress the chest at least 2 inches.
  5. Push hard & fast at a rate of about 100 compressions a minute.

2nd step: Airway (A)

  1. To open the person's airway, put your palm on the person's forehead and gently tilt the head back.
  2. With the other hand, gently lift the chin forward to open the airway.
  3. Pick out any obvious obstruction from the mouth.
  4. Look for chest motion and feel for the person's breath on your cheek and ear, if the person is not breathing normally, begin mouth-to-mouth breathing.

3rd step: Breathing (B)

Rescue breathing can be mouth-to-mouth breathing or mouth-to-nose breathing.

  1. Pinch the soft part of the person’s nose closed.
  2. Take a normal breath and place your lips over around the victim’s mouth.
  3. The person’s chest should rise and fall, if the chest does not rise, reposition the head, make a better seal, and try again.

Continue CPR until there are signs of movement or someone with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) arrives, it is the only known device that can restore the electrical activity of the heart and allows it to re-establish itself to a normal rhythm. All you want to know about AEDs, how to use it and where it should be placed in this article: The Spark of Life.
